My district allowed 3 days, plus two travels days all paid.

In addition the member could use Personal Necessity days in
addition to bereavement leave. There is no limit on this if you
have enough sick leave. Before you could only use one day of
personal necessity. Over the years this got changed slowly. In
lean years it is a good idea for the negotiating team to work
on contract language and fix problem areas.

Another thing a member could also take no paid leave time. But
this could cut into their retirement and even one day would
show up as less than a full year with STRS.

They might also offer to pay for the sub and not lose actual
    days.

We had a teacher whose spouse died in the spring and she was
off a week. It was not good for her to come back, she was wiped
out. So sad too. The recover time is longer.

I know the "Teamsters" you cannot get sick leave or bereavement
leave. The first three days you don't get paid, after that you
can use sick leave. My neigbor was a teamster auto mechanic
with GM. That keeps people from calling in sick when you lose
pay for the first days. I thought bereavement should have been
    covered.
