It is the largest district in the state and is much more diverse than you might think. Contrary to Hollywood's image, it is not all inner-city. Where I teach at in Fresno (middle of the state; large agricultural area) is more urban than quite a few of their schools. By the way, in some states the whole ESL/ELD thing works better in terms of employment. While we have more English learners than elsewhere, many of the teachers doing the teaching are barely qualified to do so. In other words, they have only the CLAD/CTEL and nothing else.
