    NO!
    Temporary means they are automatically not renewed at the end
    of the year. Temporary means they were hired knowing they
    would not be back. I don't understand how a temporary teacher
    could have 8 years of being temporary. A teacher is only
    supposed to be temporary if another teacher takes the year
    off, or leaves during the year. There are rules about hiring
    temporary teachers as it would put other teachers out of
    work. Everyone knows this up front. Especially the union and
    the union does not like it when a district hires too many
    temporary teachers instead of tenure tracked teacher.

    Sometimes a school district will hire a football coach and
    try to find a teaching position for them. I smell a rat here
    really.

    Temporary also means that they can't find a qualified teacher
    or it is a hard to fill position.

    The real thing is to read your contract and speak to the
    union about this. Your district contract language should
    spell this out.
