    Here's the deal-your union rep is biased. Go to the union
    office and ask to speak to the union president. Bring the
    contract language in question with you and the proposed
    hiring dates. Then let the union handle it and the chips
    fall where they may. If the other person slipped through on
    a technicality, so be it. If the other person is wrongly
    assigned a seniority date by an incompetent district office,
    the union will catch it. Don't go through your union rep
    and if asked why, tell them you are concerned the rep either
    does not know the answers or is biased.
    As a union rep myself, I am new to the job this year. If
    you came to me, I would research the issue with the union
    office regardless of how I felt about the situation. Sadly,
    that is not always the case. Good luck to you!
