I just moved from San Diego where I worked in the school systems there. Are you a teacher? If so, it will be challenging to find a job in the coastal areas unless you are in the math or sciences. I know teachers who have been waiting/subbing for quite a long time. A couple of hundred elementary teachers just got laid off at my former school district. However, if you move inland, there may be more opportunities there. See ed-join for CA district postings.
