Re: Can't Believe It's Really That Bad in California

California is a dichotomy. Yes, it is liberal-in large metropolitan areas
mostly. The valley and southern California is very conservative. For
example look at Prop. 8. The conservative vote prevailed in California.
Even Iowa is more liberal on the gay marriage issue than California.

I live and work in the "liberal" San Francisco area. I've had student
teachers. I haven't seen "humanistic ideology" coming from the colleges
nor have I seen student centered teaching as opposed to teacher directed.
What I have seen is student teachers approaching teaching trying various
methods-group work, multisensory approaches, use of technology, etc.
California credentialing is very strict-just ask anyone who has come from
out of state. My school district-a large diverse district in the SF bay
area-is very careful to avoid becoming a "jump on the latest fad"
district-as I think most districts are. We're pretty mainstream.

It's interesting to me that people across the country assign labels to
California without seeing first hand what really goes on here.
